Natural Language Processing

Natural-language processing (NLP) is concerned with the interactions between computers and human (natural) languages. Bangla which is sixth most popular language in the world but still in degraded stage at least as far as work in the area of computational linguistics is concerned. Specific researches in NLP are:

  • i) Bangla grammar recognition or parsing Bangla sentences
  • ii) Sentiment/opinion mining from Bangla text
  • iii) Bangla POS tagging
  • iv) Bangla grammar recognition or parsing Bangla sentences

Machine Learning and Deep Learning

Machine Learning (ML) is the field of study that develop computer system for intelligent task through learning from data and making adaptive to environment. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Swarm Intelligence based different methods are well studied ML methods for many real-life problems. Several specific field of researches are as follows:

  • i) Real-Life intelligent pattern recognition and classifier system development
  • ii) High performance OCR development employing Deep Learning
  • iii) Enhancement of different NLP operations (especially for Bangla) using Deep Learning

Database and Data Science applications

Data science is an interdisciplinary field of scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge from data stored in various forms, either structured or unstructured. Some exact areas include:

  • i)  Database design and implementations specially for web-based system
  • ii)  Extract meaning/structure and interpret data using machine learning tools
  • iii)  Extracting knowledge or insights from data in various forms either structured or unstructured data.

Cyber and Computer Security

Computer Security is the protection of computing systems and data that they store or access. It controls physical access to the hardware as well as protects against the harm that may come via network access, data, and code injection. Several specific field of interest are as follows:

  • i) Applied Cryptography.
  • ii) Information Security Protocol.
  • iii)  Applications of Machine Learning.

Computer Vision and Image Processing

Computer Vision and Image Processing (CVIP) is used to emulate human level vision extracting information from digital images. It uses many low-level image processing techniques to extract visual information and several ML techniques for understanding the images. Some precise area of research includes:

  • i) Human Motion Estimation and Activity Recognition.
  • ii) Foreground Background Modelling, Salient region detection.
  • iii)  Bangla OCR, Sign Language recognition.
  • vi) Various Objects (Traffic sign / Number plate / Plant species from leaf) detection / recognition.
